Cabins & Cottages

Lake Taghkanic State Park rents two kinds of lodging. Rustic cabins sit in the woods at the east end of the park, beyond the campground, and cost $412 to $700 a week in 2026. Cottages line the lake shore at the west end and cost $110 to $157 a night, or $440 to $630 a week. Four full-service cottages (157, 158, 167 and 171) come furnished like a vacation home for $180 to $195 a night. All are booked through ReserveAmerica, and no pets are allowed in any of them.

Cabins vs Cottages

The difference is plumbing and location.

Cabins (east end). Rustic units in the woods past the camping area. Each has a small kitchen, running water (many have cold water only), a fireplace and an indoor toilet. Showers are in a shared shower house. The 2023 brochure lists 15 cabins, C-1 to C-16, with one to four bedrooms; a few have hot water.

Cottages (west end). Units along the lake shore, each with a kitchen, hot and cold water and a bathroom with a shower. Most have drywall interiors; cottages 155, 164 and 166 have pine-board interiors, and some have electric heat or a fireplace. The brochure lists 15 cottages numbered 154 to 171. Cottage 155 is marked wheelchair accessible.

Full-service vacation cottages. Cottages 157, 158, 167 and 171 add everything you would bring yourself elsewhere: dishes and cookware, glassware, a coffee maker and toaster, deluxe furniture, a sofa, electric heat, and bed linens and towels. State Parks describes an enclosed or screened back porch facing the water. A $100 condition deposit is due at check-in, and access passes do not apply to these units.

What Every Unit Has

From the park's brochure, every cabin and cottage has an electric stove, a microwave, a refrigerator of at least 10 cubic feet, a screened porch, a picnic table and a fire ring.

What to Bring

In standard cabins and cottages you bring your own cooking and eating utensils, cookware, sheets, blankets and pillows. Full-service cottages supply them. Firewood, ice and supplies are sold at the camp store in season.

2026 Rates

From the State Parks page:

Size and Sleeping

Units range from one to four bedrooms. The park caps them at two people for a one-bedroom, four for two bedrooms, six for three and eight for four. Cottage 158 is the big one: two floors, a fireplace, a dorm-style upstairs, and room for eight.

Booking Rules

Season

Cabins and cottages follow the camping season: May 15 to October 25 in 2026.

Good For / Maybe Skip If

Good for: families who want a week at the lake without a tent; groups up to eight in the larger units; anyone who wants a porch on the water (west-end cottages). Maybe skip if: you are traveling with a dog (no pets in any unit) or want a single night. Try a campsite instead, where two pets per site are allowed.
